TechMun

The Model United Nations program at Camden County Technical Schools is a part of the 21st Century After School Program at CCTS. Model United Nations encourages students in all grades to portray UN delegates to debate diplomatically and work cooperatively in committee simulations. CCTS is also a part of the South Jersey Model United Nations Consortium with Eastern Regional High School, Moorestown High School, Haddonfield Memorial High School, and Clearview Regional High School. Throughout the school year, CCTS also attends five day conferences, (SJMUN, TechMUN, MooMUN, ViewMUN, and HadMUN), and visits the United Nations in New York.

    Parliamentary Procedure:
Parliamentary Procedure is the way that delegates behave within a committee. It involves a more formal use of speech, oftentimes including terms that would not be used in everyday language.

For specific terms used during the conference as well as an introduction to the basic mechanics of a conference, see the link below

If you need assistance in writing position papers or have any questions regarding parliamentary procedure or other conference procedures, please click the email icon below to email either Mrs. O'Malley or Erin.

    Working and Resolution Papers:
Working Papers are the drafts that delegates within a committee write to resolve specific issues within those committees.

Guidelines for writing Working and Resolution Papers is below

Position papers are vital to being a successful delegate in a committee. Please ensure that all delegates write and bring their position papers with them to the conference, as they help prepare and educate delegates on their committee topic, as well as their country/character's position on it.

    FAQ

    What is MUN?
Model United Nations, or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, such as TechMUN or the other local conferences. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate; the Best Delegate in each committee, however, receives a gavel.

    Why should I join MUN?
Model UN is a great way for students to gain valuable skills in leadership, such as public speaking, writing from an opposing viewpoint, dealing with difficult but relevant world topics, and forming positive relationships with other delegates. In the modern world, it may seem difficult for students to be able to see from differing perspectives, argue for issues they do not personally agree with, or be able to compromise for the greater good. Model UN gives students the opportunities to do so in a safe, fun environment.

    How do I join MUN?
When filling out the 21st Century Afterschool Application, be sure to mark down Model UN on Mondays for a double session, and return the packet to the 21st Century Office in Building 1 during a lunch period. This will ensure that you are on the attendance list for Model UN.

Who do I contact if I need help?
If you need help with anything MUN related, whether it's registering for a conference, asking questions about a committee, or asking for help on position papers, you can contact Mrs. O'Malley or Erin Danker for assistance. Please be sure to join the Google Classroom and Remind, as all information needed for CCTS Model Un will be on there. To join the Classroom or Remind, please email Mrs. O'Malley for assistance, and for help writing papers or getting ready for a conference, email Erin.

    Chairs

    Welcome TechMUN Guest Chairs!

In past years, it has been rather difficult for us to have experienced chairs in our committees, as our more seasoned delegates end up working TechMUN in other capacities. We ask that this year if you desire to be a chair that you have chaired at least one to two conferences and have advisor approval to chair in this conference, as we wish to ensure that our younger chairs at CCTS have someone more experienced to guide them along the way.

In order for things to run as smoothly as possible, we ask that advisors send the names and email addresses of their chairs with their registration, as this will ensure no one's name is omitted from the list, and that the chairs and co-chairs from TechMUN can get in contact with your chairs before the conference in order to discuss the topics and get to know one another before the conference.

Another issue that has been brought to our attention is the grading of position papers. If you are chairing a committee, it is expected that you know the updated template for grading position papers, and enact that instead of the old one. For TechMUN, we have included a link under our Resources tab, there will be another one linked below, and you will receive a paper copy in your Chair Guidelines packet. If you notice that a student is still using the old format, do NOT take away points from them or deny them the opportunity to win best position paper. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you and best of luck.
    Erin Danker
    Co- Secretary General
